Q: My computer won’t turn on what should I do?

A: There are many reasons why a computer can stop working or “freeze up” on you. Computer programs have become so complex that sometimes users will have problems even doing simple things like checking email. When your computer no longer takes commands from the keyboard just do a restart.

Q: What should I do if I can’t delete a file because it is being used by windows?

A: Your going to need to close every program that is running on the computer, after that try again. If the problem continues and you still can’t delete the file, load the computer into safe mode and try again.

Q: How do I run updates on my Microsoft windows computer?

A: To run updates all you need to do is press your windows key and then search “updates”. This will bring you to a page where you click on “check for updates”. This will start installing all the available updates, and then you may be prompted to restart once they have finished.

Q: Is it safe to shut down a windows computer using the power button or unplugging it?

A: You should never shutdown or restart your computer using the power button unless there is an issue with the computer. The shutdown feature is available because it allows the computer to go through the required steps before turning it off.

Q: What should I do if I am unable to send and receive emails?

A: The first thing you need to do is to confirm that you have an internet connection. If you have internet and cannot send and receive emails, contact your network administrators.

Q: How do I determine my computers name?

A: To determine your computers name, all you need to do is go to file explorer. Then right click on “This PC” and click properties. You will see the Computer name about 3 quarters of the way down the window that pops up.

Q: Does windows come with virus software?

A: Windows comes with a virus software called Windows Defender Antivirus. This is a good free virus software, but it is strongly recommended that you upgrade. Specifically, to something that has good malware protection.

Q: What should I do if I can’t connect to my network drive?

A: The first thing your going to want to do is to confirm that your network cable is connected to the back of your computer. Also confirm that the green link lights are on.

A: A virus is a software program that was created with a malicious intent, to either spread to other computers on a network or destroy data on an individual’s computer. Due to this software engineers have developed anti-virus software that runs all the time on your computer.

Q: Can a virus damage my computer hardware?

A: A virus will not damage your computer hardware. Viruses are designed to spread to other computers, delete files, and cause other problems with the data on your computer.

Q: How do I start my computer in safe mode?

A: When the computer is booting up press and hold the “F8 Key”, this will bring up the “Windows advanced options menu”. Then you will want to use your arrow keys and move to “Safe Mode”, then press enter.
